The elected president, Prabowo Subianto aims for Indonesia to achieve food self-sufficiency within four years.

This target is relatively short, but President Prabowo Subianto is optimistic that Indonesia can become self-reliant in meeting its food needs.

Therefore, a country must be prepared to maintain its food supply to meet the needs of its people.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman believes that Indonesia can achieve food self-sufficiency within four years.

Strengthening Indonesia’s agricultural sector not only reduces the risk of hunger but also opens opportunities for the country to advance its export capabilities.

The key commodities being focused on for Indonesia’s food self-sufficiency include rice and corn.

Indonesia Once Achieved Food Self-Sufficiency and Received an Award

President Prabowo Subianto’s dream is not mere wishful thinking. Indonesia once achieved food self-sufficiency in 1984.

One of the key commodities produced in sufficient quantities at the time was rice. That year, rice production was so robust that it was enough to meet the needs of the people.

Moreover, Indonesia received recognition from the FAO (Food Agriculture Organization) for its success in advancing its agricultural and food sectors.

Prabowo Believes Food Security is Fundamental to a Nation’s Sustainability

President Prabowo Subianto believes that food security is fundamental for any nation.

Especially in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, many countries stopped exporting to secure their own food supplies.

If we continue to rely on exporting countries, Indonesia may struggle to meet its food needs in the future.

“A nation that wants to be truly independent must not import food. I am determined to achieve food self-sufficiency,” emphasized elected President Prabowo Subianto.

If Indonesia achieves food self-sufficiency, every layer of society will have access to adequate nutritious food.

This will improve the standard and quality of life, and ensure better welfare for farmers and livestock producers.
